Morocco earthquake: 632 people have died

As officials analyze the damage, the death toll from a violent, uncommon earthquake that struck the area surrounding Marrakech more than quadrupled, reaching 632 dead and 329 wounded, according to the Moroccan government.

Similar to earlier earthquakes, the number of casualties seems to be increasing as the extent becomes more apparent in remote and difficult-to-reach locations.

The earthquake that hit late Friday night killed hundreds of people and destroyed structures in Marrakech as well as towns in the Atlas Mountains. At least 296 people were reported dead early on Saturday, according to Morocco’s interior ministry.
