Pakistan: A section of Imran Khan’s party’s central secretariat is demolished by the development authority

May 24, Islamabad, Pakistan: Geo News claimed that the Capital Development Authority had destroyed a piece of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) central headquarters in Islamabad due to a “violation of building rules.” The party formed by Imran Khan had strongly criticized the CDA’s move.

The CDA stated in a statement that an operation to remove encroachment and unlawful buildings was started on Thursday by its anti-encroachment team. The procedure lasted an hour and began at around 11.30 p.m. (local time).

The CDA said that the scheme had been assigned in the name of a person known only as Sartaj Ali and that intrusion by a “political party” was being eliminated. According to Geo News, the CDA claimed that an extra level was constructed on the property against the building codes.

The government agency said that notifications it had sent to PTI had been unsuccessful. The party that former prime minister Imran Khan formed asked its employees to go to the secretariat right away while the operation was underway. According to the PTI, the government started tearing down the office in an “illegal and unjust manner.”

PTI’s chairman, Barrister Gohar Khan, denied receiving any directives from the CDA, despite the CDA claiming to have sent the party many notifications.

Khan said that while CDA representatives were requested to submit documentation pertaining to the operation, they were unable to do so. He said, “If there had been any encroachments and they had informed us about them earlier, we would have removed them ourselves.”

According to a report by Geo News, PTI secretary-general Omar Ayub took a jab at the CDA while speaking to media outside the office. He emphasized that the party will bring up the CDA problem in parliament.

Ayub said, “The PTI condemns the CDA action in the strongest terms.” He emphasized that the operation was started at night without any prior notification by the local government. According to Geo News, he also said that PTI leader Amir Mughal had been taken into custody by police.

The CDA personnel slapped the directive on the PTI central office and sealed it once the process was over. As a consequence of PTI activists’ resistance to CDA’s efforts to destroy the office during the operation, several party employees were taken into custody by Islamabad police.

“Late night armed invasion and vandalism of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf central office Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf strongly condemns the invasion of the country’s largest political party by the mandate thief government in the dead of night,” PTI Islamabad said in a statement posted on X. Reiterating our resolve to pursue the goal of real freedom without backing down in the face of intimidation, lawlessness, or the heedless use of force.”

“When they realize their demise is right in front of them, the mandate thief and his supporters are horrified.
