PM Sharif announces Asif Ali Zardari as the next president of Pakistan; supporters back him

Asif Ali Zardari will be the next president of Pakistan, according to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who also indicated that there would be “strong coordination” between them. The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), one of the coalition’s supporters, has decided to back Zardari in the March 9 presidential election, according to local news sources.

This happened after Shehbaz Sharif gave the members of the allied parties a dinner at his official house in Islamabad.

According to Geo TV, Sharif addressed the assembly and said that allies will “jointly make efforts to find out solutions to the crisis” that Pakistan is now experiencing.

He went on to say that in the next two to three days, Zardari will be elected president of the nation.

In addition to being the PPP’s co-chairman, Zardari presided over Pakistan as its eleventh president from 2008 to 2013.

Shehbaz Sharif said at the dinner that the coalition government will be represented in the next presidential polls as it received two-thirds of the vote in the previous general elections.

According to The Tribune, the prime minister of Pakistan voiced alarm about the nation’s economic predicament, stating that Pakistan International Airlines’ (PIA) debt has skyrocketed to Rs 825 billion and the country’s gas and power circular debt has climbed to Rs 5 trillion.

He also emphasized that other nations had greater tax-to-GDP ratios than Pakistan, which had just 9.8%. As stated in The Tribute article, Sharif also brought attention to the hundreds of billions of rupees in losses incurred by state-owned enterprises and the government’s reliance on loans to make up for these losses.

While everything was going on, Asif Ali Zardari gave Shehbaz Sharif his undivided support in his words to deal with Pakistan’s present issues. He emphasized that major agricultural breakthroughs might significantly alleviate the nation’s problems, according to The Tribune.

Asif Ali Zardari urged the governing alliance to cooperate in order to transform Pakistan into a “power for China” and “prosperous” nation.

Asif Ali Zardari, the PPP’s chairman and his son, said that whenever he became president of Pakistan, he would play a significant role in fortifying the federation.
