The Kremlin says Russia is prepared to talk with Ukraine

Kremlin Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that Russian President Vladimir Putin has reaffirmed his willingness to speak with Ukraine and that a thwarted peace agreement from 2022 may provide the foundation for a new round of talks.

Putin said on Thursday that although Moscow is in favor of restarting talks, these discussions must not be used to “impose any schemes that have nothing to do with reality” at a meeting with Alexander Lukashenko, the president of Belarus.

Peskov said on Friday that while there have been several modifications since then, the “Istanbul agreements,” a draft peace deal signed by Russia and Ukraine in March 2022, would provide the foundation for reopening negotiations, according to Xinhua news agency.

According to him, the Kremlin does not believe that the Ukrainian side is prepared for talks with Russia.
