Ukraine allots an extra $100 million for defense

According to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on Telegram, the Ukrainian government has set aside an extra 3.88 billion hryvnias ($100 million) to construct defense fortifications.

According to a Friday report from the Xinhua news agency, of the total, 1.7 billion hryvnias ($43 million) would be used to erect fortifications in the eastern Kharkiv area and 1.5 billion hryvnias ($38 million) will be used to defend the northern Sumy region.

The remaining monies will be used to build defense infrastructure in the eastern Donetsk area and the southern regions of Kherson and Mykolayiv.

The government has spent a record 30 billion hryvnias ($766 million) building defense lines in the midst of the conflict with Russia since the year’s beginning.
