Estimated decline in food grain production in Kharif due to indifference of monsoon, how much will be the yield of crops in this season
Kharif season yields are expected to decline due to the rough and unbalanced rainfall of the current monsoon season. According to the first advance estimates released by the Agriculture Ministry, the total food grain production in the current Kharif season 2022-23 will be 1499 million tonnes, which will be lower than the 156 million tonnes in the previous Kharif season. Rice, the main crop of the season, can yield up to 10.500 million tonnes, as against the total production of 1117 million tonnes in the Kharif season last year.
Record production estimates of sugarcane
However, record production of maize and sugarcane has been estimated in the current Kharif season. The rice-producing states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Bengal in the eastern region of the country received deficient monsoon rains. Apart from these states, the area under paddy has also decreased in Madhya Pradesh. Due to this, paddy cultivation was affected, due to which a decline in rice yield has been estimated.
The yield of coarse cereals crops will be 35.6 million tonnes
According to the advance estimates released, the production of coarse cereals in the current Kharif season will be 35.6 million tonnes, as against the total production of these crops at 40.6 million tonnes in the last year's Kharif season.
Total production estimated at 83.7 lakh tonnes
The production of maize has been estimated to be 23.1 million tonnes, which will be a record this time. Its production was 22.6 million tonnes in the last Kharif season. The yield of pulses will remain the same as that of the last Kharif season. This time the total production is estimated to be 83.7 lakh tonnes.
The total yield of oilseed crops is estimated to be 23.6 million tonnes.
In this, the production of major pulses like Arhar is estimated to be 38.9 lakh tonnes, compared to 43.40 lakh tonnes last year. The total yield of oilseed crops has been estimated to be 23.6 million tonnes. In comparison, the total production of oilseeds in the last year's Kharif season was 23.90 million tonnes. In this, the production of groundnut has been estimated at 837 million tonnes, while the production of soybean is estimated at 12.90 million tonnes.
Sugar production in the country will be more
The production of sugarcane has been estimated to be record-breaking. The total production of sugarcane during the current year 2022-23 is estimated at 465.5 million tonnes. Whereas last year the total production of sugarcane was 431.8 million tonnes. It is clear from this that this time there will be more sugar production in the country, which will facilitate ethanol production. In view of this, the sugar industry has demanded the government announce the sugar export policy immediately.
