Rafale vs F-18: French Rafale or American F-18 will soon be included in the Indian Navy, test report is being evaluated

The Indian Navy is continuously taking steps to strengthen itself amid the growing challenge of China in the Indian Ocean and the Arabian Ocean. In this episode, the Navy is planning to buy 26 fighter aircraft. A tender worth USD 5 billion has been floated for this. For this, the reports of extensive tests of French fighter aircraft Rafale and US F-18 aircraft are being evaluated by the Indian Naval Headquarters.

Plans to buy fighter planes for aircraft carriers

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had recently commissioned the latest indigenously built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant in Kochi. The Navy plans to buy them under a government-to-government deal to deploy fighter jets on it. In this regard, government sources said that both the French fighter aircraft Rafale and the US F-18 were extensively tested by a naval team in Goa. His report is with the Naval Headquarters. For this, the final shortlisting is being prepared.

Evaluation of reports of extensive tests of French and American fighter jets

He said the fighter jets are being evaluated to see if they meet the technical specifications of the Navy's requirements. American aircraft are built for carriers weighing about one million tonnes, while the French fighter Rafale is built for carriers of 60,000 tonnes in size. The Navy has MiG-29Ks, which operate from the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya. They do not have a very strong service capability record of the MiG-29. Their number is considered sufficient for only one carrier (carrier).

French fighter Rafale emerged as the winner of the tender last time

The test report will determine the winner of the competition, under which around 57 aircraft were earlier planned to be procured, but this has now been reduced to just 26. The last time these two aircraft participated in an Indian tender, the French fighter Rafale of the tender emerged victorious but the deal could not be completed due to technical issues.

The US claims, the improved performance and capability of fighter aircraft

However, based on the final selection of the previous deal, the government was able to procure 36 Rafale fighter jets, which played a major role during their deployment against China in eastern Ladakh and other areas. Now the US Department of Defense has been claiming that it has made massive improvements in the performance and capabilities of the fighter aircraft compared to the previous tender competition. It says that the F-18 aircraft will meet all the requirements of the Indian Navy.
