White House: PM Modi’s State Visit Will Reiterate Deep, Close Partnership Between India and the US

The White House said on Wednesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s impending official state visit to the US would reaffirm the strong ties of friendship and family that bind Americans and Indians together.

On the invitation of President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, Prime Minister Modi will go to the US for the first time in June. On June 22, Modi will also be hosted by the US president and first lady at a state banquet.

At her daily press conference, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters, “We believe the upcoming visit will affirm the deep and close partnership between the United States and India and the warm bonds of family and friendship that link Americans and Indians together.”

The Prime Minister and the President will talk about ways to deepen our two nations’ common commitment to a free, open, prosperous, and safe Indo-Pacific as well as their shared determination to further their strategic technological collaboration, including defense, Jean-Pierre added.

In response to a query regarding the State Visit, she said, “So that certainly will be discussed in clean energy and space.” “However, I’m not going to get into specifics about what they will be. And as June 22nd approaches, we undoubtedly have more to share,” she said to a query.

Prior to hosting the G20 Summit in India in September, PM Modi is traveling to the US.

Modi has visited the United States more than six times since taking office in 2014, traveling there for bilateral and multilateral meetings with all three American presidents—Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and now Joe Biden—but this is the first time he has been invited for an official state visit, a privilege reserved for America’s close friends and allies.

His most recent trip to the nation’s capital took place in September 2021 at President Biden’s request for a private meeting.

Additionally, he had gone to Biden’s first in-person Quad Leaders Summit.
