As the Cannes crowd applauds “Rumours,” Cate Blanchett blows kisses

Renowned Hollywood actress Cate Blanchett was seen blowing kisses to the crowd at the Cannes Film Festival after her new post-apocalyptic comedy Rumours received a standing ovation that lasted four minutes at the esteemed event.

After the cheering subsided, the three filmmakers of the movie, Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson, and Galen Johnson, gave a joint address in which they thanked the crowd and referenced their own work, stating, “It’s better to burn out than to fade away.”

Rumors center on a group of international leaders who strive to produce a common statement during the G7 summit—a political and economic gathering of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the US—but end up getting lost in the forest.

Alicia Vikander, Charles Dance, Roy Dupuis, and Denis Menochet are among the other actors that appear in the dark comedy movie.
