Day 2 of Lakme Fashion Week x FDCI was a celebration of fashion woven into environmentally conscious narratives

Sustainable Fashion Day, the most exquisite tapestry, featured a runway of tales. On the second day of Lakme Fashion Week x FDCI, inventive storytelling transcended the fashion narrative and produced a medley of unforgettable experiences.

Modern silhouettes integrate artisanship with cultural roots in an emotional color scheme. Every collection that walked the catwalk assembled a lovingly made mosaic of sustainable tales.

Labels Inca, Til, and Yavi opened the day with sustainable displays of their individual collections, Love is a Verb, RAY, and Recondite Freedom. Each collection reflected the values that each designer held dear, as they displayed their skill via a variety of fabrics, colors, and patterns. The bold two-tone colors of Inca, the fashion-meets-art fusion of Til and the grandeur of Yavi’s prints, each gracefully merged with the designer’s dedication to sustainability.

The moment Yavi’s father, the designer, introduced the event was another memorable moment from Yavi’s display. Yadvi claims that his father has been a huge support throughout his journey, so having him there on this significant occasion was only fitting.

Gulaal was used by textile visionary Gaurang Shah to color the craftsman’s canvas. A riveting evening of song and dance, 43 ensembles wearing mesmerizing lehengas and sarees brought the world of Gaurang to life. Each skill that Gaurang selected, which included gorgeous pink hues accentuated by elaborate embroidery, was praised and emphasized by his muses, who included Carol Gracias, Alesia Raut, and Nayanika Chatterjee, among others. The exhibition included a live performance by soul-stirring vocalist Hardik Chauhan, who brought Gaurang’s collection to life like a movie.

As time goes on, fashion evokes feelings that become memories. It was time to play and have some fun with the innovative collaboration between Chola by Sohaya Misra x Tea Culture of the World after the customarily lush and ethereal Gaurang exhibition. The collection, which included classic black and white hues as well as vibrant tones of mustard, orange, blue, and matcha, was like a huge tea party we were unaware we needed.

On Sustainable Fashion Day, when 15 years of Urvashi Kaur were honored with a magnificent exhibition called Voices of Urvashi Kaur, the voice of fashion was heard clearly. Just as influential as her inspirations, which included her mother, Anupama Singh, Santanu Hazarika, Rasika Dugal, Mallika Dua, Faraz Ansani, Shweta Tripathi, and Ratna Pathak Shah, were the silhouettes in Urvashi’s showcase, which honored the artistry of Urvashi’s sustainable design. As a continuation of the Renew initiative, Urvashi’s most recent collection, Pra na, brought together archival fabrics.

As they say, there is a huge responsibility that comes along with power. It’s time we observed Sustainable Fashion Day on a daily basis. We suffocate under the rubble of our own production, crushed by the weight of our garbage. A provocative message was presented during the imaginative presentation of Without, the R|Elan winner, the Circular Design Challenge, presented in collaboration with the UN in India.

Without, a business founded by Anish Malpani, redefines what it means to change. It does this by recycling plastic waste—including chip packets—into high-end fashion items like sunglasses and earrings. The key players in his squad attended the special presentation. The “Optimisers at Team Without” were once garbage pickers who now worked directly with engineers and scientists and knew how to operate injection molding machines, extruders, and lens cutters.

Be Kind, Rewind sums up JJV Kapurthala by JJ Valaya’s x R|Elan and Akaaro’s showcasing in perfect harmony.

Gaurav Jai Gupta utilized leftover and discarded yarns from his Akaaro collection to develop his inventive and adaptable Moonrise line.

The R|Elan textiles, which are fashioned from recycled PET bottles, have magical properties that make them show stoppers in JJV Kapurthala’s Char collection. The Bridge to Luxury collection used JJ Valaya’s trademark “shifting leaf chevron” designs to investigate sustainable fabrics and turn them into modern styles.

Renowned for his imaginative exhibitions that prioritize fashion and music, singer Bhuwin elevated the fashion show with a captivating performance.

Making a difference one stitch at a time was the theme of Day 2 of Lakme Fashion Week x FDCI, which included both entertaining displays and sustainable creations.
