Details: Delhi University Raises Annual Fees by 46%

The yearly fees for Delhi University have increased by 46%, reaching a total of Rs 2,350 for all categories. Some educators think this is an effort to take advantage of student fees in order to pay back the interest on loans from the Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA). The HEFA approved a Rs 930 crore loan in October.

The university has raised facility and service fees to Rs 1,000, beginning for the academic year 2023–2024, according to an official circular released on June 7. In addition, the expenses for the student welfare fund have more than doubled to Rs 200, and the development fund has increased its charges by more than 10% to Rs 1,000 from the revised Rs 900 in June of the previous year.

For the forthcoming academic year, the yearly fees for the economically disadvantaged sector support university fund have also been lowered to Rs 150.

This is the second price hike this year; the last one was reportedly the first in thirteen years when it was announced in July of the prior year. The yearly fee for the component of the university development fund would rise from Rs 600 to Rs 900 in 2022.

Delhi University faculty members and members of the Academic Council assert that the fee hikes are being imposed in order to pay the interest on the HEFA loan.

The finalization of numerous important recommendations addressed at the Academic Council meeting on November 30 will take place on December 6.
