Hindu New Year 2024: Shubh Muhurat, History, Significance, and Wishes for Vikram Samvat 2081

The day is considered auspicious for starting new endeavors since it represents fresh starts. The Hindu New Year begins with the entrance of the month of Chaitra, as opposed to the Gregorian calendar, which marks the start of the new year on January 1. The Hindu calendar culminates in the month of Phalgun, while Navratri occurs at the beginning of the year in Chaitra.

Local mythology holds that almost 2068 years ago, the great monarch of Ujjain, Vikramaditya, set his followers free from the Sakas’ rule. According to historians, the commonly used Gregorian calendar is placed 57 years behind the old Indian calendar, Vikram Samvat. It is Vikram Samvat 2081 this year.

Celebrated on the first day of the Shukla Paksha of the Chaitra month, the Hindu New Year, or Vikram Samvat, is renowned for its mathematical accuracy. The first day of the Hindu month of Baishakh marks the start of the Hindu New Year in a number of states.

Drik Panchang states that the dates of Chaitra Shukla Pratipada Tithi are April 8, 2024, at 11:50 PM, and April 9, 2024, at 8:30 PM. The Kalash Sthapana Abhijit Muhurat begins at 11:57 AM and ends at 12:48 PM, while the Chaitra Navratri Ghatasthapana Muhurata runs from 6:02 AM to 10:16 AM.
