13 were burned alive in a bus-truck accident in Madhya Pradesh

In the Madhya Pradesh region of Guna, a private bus collided head-on with a vehicle on Wednesday night, igniting a blaze that killed 13 passengers and injured at least 16 more.

The bus apparently belonged to Vishwanath Sikarwar, the head of the governing Bharatiya Janata Party, and its road tax was overdue since 2021. It also had lapsed insurance and fitness certifications.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each to the next of kin of each of the 13 deceased and `50,000 each to severely injured passengers. On Thursday, Yadav rushed to Guna district and met with the critically injured patients and grieving relatives of the deceased at the district hospital.

A four-member commission led by the Guna additional district collector was tasked with conducting a high-level investigation into the disaster at the CM’s request.

Due to their carelessness in the situation, particularly the fire tenders’ delayed arrival, the top municipal official and the Guna RTO were suspended with immediate effect.
