36 kilos of “meth” worth Rs 180 crore was found in TN; a couple was arrested

Officers from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) made a significant drug seizure on Friday, seizing 36 kg of methamphetamine worth an estimated Rs 180 crore from a man and his spouse. I Clement Prakash (42) of Chennai had 30 kg of drugs confiscated from him as he disembarked at the Madurai railway station on Friday morning. However, according to his wife’s admission, around six kilograms of drugs were found at the Kondungaiyur dump yard in Chennai.

The narcotic was disposed of in the trash can by the lady, who lives in Chennai’s Kannadasan Nagar, and was collected to the yard by corporation employees along with other debris. Prakash and his spouse have been placed under arrest. According to DRI sources, the medication was to be sent by sea to Sri Lanka.

A plan was put in place to trap the passenger at Madurai Railway Station, according to a press release released by the Public Information Bureau (PIB) on Friday. The plan was based on specific intelligence inputs regarding narcotic substance being carried by a passenger traveling on Pothigai Express Train from Chennai to Madurai on Thursday.

When the train arrived at the Madurai station on Friday morning, a thorough surveillance operation was conducted, and with the assistance of RPF (railway police force) authorities, the passenger was located and apprehended. ~

At the landfill, DRI found 6 kilos of crystal meth.

Upon examining his luggage, fifteen packages containing thirty kilograms of white crystal material were discovered. Testing revealed that the material was methamphetamine, and the illegal goods were taken into custody.

“After being questioned, the man admitted that he kept additional methamphetamine packets at his Chennai home.” When DRI teams searched his house right immediately, they discovered that his wife had dumped the drug packets in the trash can and that municipal employees had already transported the trash to the Kondungaiyur waste yard.

Following a thorough search at the dump, a DRI team discovered three packets totaling six kilograms that contained a white-colored crystal material that was subsequently identified as methamphetamine by testing, according to the announcement. The estimated worth of the drugs that were confiscated on the foreign market is around Rs 180 crore.

Preliminary investigative findings indicate that the suspect was transporting the contraband to Sri Lanka. More investigation is ongoing, and the guy and his spouse have been placed under arrest, according to the statement.

Methamphetamine, also referred to as “ice” or “crystal meth,” is a highly addictive psychostimulant substance that has effects on the user’s euphoria that are comparable to those of cocaine and may have potentially fatal repercussions. At Chennai Airport, DRI recently apprehended an Indonesian traveler in possession of 2.79 kilogram of cocaine valued at Rs 27.9 crore.

“Very shocking and painful that the ruling DMK has turned Tamil Nadu into a state where all kinds of drugs like ganja, cocaine, heroin, and now methamphetamine are easily available,” said AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami in response to the seizure.

Tamil Nadu has undoubtedly turned into India’s drug capital, according to BJP state chairman K Annamalai, who also attacked the governing party, saying that “Thiru @mkstalin should hang his head in shame for transforming this state into a haven for drug traffickers.”

Moving contraband to Sl was the plan.
