42-year-old immigrant detained in Ludhiana for importing “ice” narcotic

A 42-year-old man from a West African nation was detained on suspicion of importing drugs known as “ice.” According to the special task force (STF) of the Ludhiana Range, 260 grams of “ice” were purportedly confiscated from him.

Frank Chubezi, who was presently living close to a mall on Ferozepur Road here, has been identified as the suspect. He claimed to have traveled to India in the past to cure his wife and to have been engaged in narcotics smuggling for a few years, according to the police. According to the authorities, he was also a drug user.

Inspector Harbans Singh of the Ludhiana Range STF claimed that they had got information indicating that the suspect needed to provide “ice drug” to his clients in Mohalla Gobind Singh Nagar. A police squad under the command of SI Naresh Kumar apprehended the suspect on Sunday night. 260 grams of “ice” substance were discovered when he was frisked, according to the STF officer.

According to Harbans Singh, a complaint under Section 21 of the NDPS Act was filed against the individual on Monday at the STF police Station, Sohana, in Mohali.

He said that the suspect disclosed that, despite having previously been the subject of two FIRs for suspected narcotics sales, he is still unemployed. In October 2023, a court also pronounced him to be a proclaimed criminal. The individual had been smuggling heroin for the last four years or so, and he was also hooked to the drug.

The STF representative said that the suspect will appear in court to get a police remand. His accomplices would be the subject of further inquiry.
