Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manish Sisodia was granted three days of interim bail by a Delhi court on Monday. It has been approved for the former deputy chief minister of Delhi, who is under arrest in connection with the ‘ scam’ involving the excise policy, to attend his niece’s wedding.
Sisodia was granted relief in the corruption and money laundering charges under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from February 13 to 15. The respite was granted by special court M K Nagpal.
On February 26, of last year, the CBI detained the former deputy chief minister on charges of corruption related to the creation and execution of the now-canceled Delhi Excise Policy 2021–2022.
In connection with a similar money laundering case, the ED detained him from Tihar prison on March 9 after he was apprehended by the CBI.
The same judicial bench earlier this month allowed Sisodia to see his sick wife once a week while he was being held in both of the cases related to the now-canceled Excise Policy 2021–2022.
In both cases, which were filed with the CBI and ED on January 27, Sisodia requested custodial release so that he may see his wife, who has suffered multiple sclerosis for more than 20 years, twice a week.
Senior attorney Mohit Mathur argued on behalf of Sisodia, saying, “Earlier, the court has granted me permission to visit my wife, and there have been no complaints against me for flouting any conditions imposed by the court.”
Sisodia’s wife’s condition was also stated as “very poor,” meaning that she needs help to walk, which has an effect on her mental health.
