Abohar: Farmers demonstrate outside the BJP gathering site, unfazed by barriers

Barricades have been erected on the Abohar-Hanumangarh Road today, preventing hundreds of farmers from entering the marital palace, the site of a BJP rally. They continued to yell anti-BJP and its Ferozepur candidate, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, despite this. According to reports, Sunil Jakhar, the state BJP president, staged a “stronger” protest in his hometown than he did in the other towns and cities he visited throughout the campaign.

Hundreds of farmers protested against Sodhi even before he came at the event, waving banners and Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) flags. Significant police preparations had already been taken in light of this. Farmers yelled, “Sodhi, go back” and “BJP murdabad” as soon as Sodhi’s caravan arrived at the palace.

For over three hours, the leaders continued to address the workers in the palace, while outside on the road, farmers continued to yell slogans despite the intense heat. Farmers stated they would be vehemently opposed to BJP officials visiting their area to campaign for elections. Leaders of the farming community Sona Singh, Jagjit Singh, Nirmal Singh, and Subhash Godara were also present on this occasion.

However, additional BJP politicians were present at the gathering held inside the palace, including Mayor Vimal Thatai, MLA Sandeep Jakhar, and former Health Minister Surjit Jyani.

In reference to the farmers’ demonstration, Sodhi said that they had come to emphasize certain requests rather than engage in a protest. He felt that making demands in this manner was improper. “They should come, have a seat, and talk about what they want because senior leaders can help resolve it. The Modi administration is dedicated to resolving the problems that farmers encounter.

He added that Sukhbir Badal, Zora Singh Mann, and Sher Singh Ghubaya, the earlier MPs from Ferozepur, had done little to help the constituency. He said that security deposits would not be saved by SAD and Congress candidates in the June 1 election.

MLA Sandeep Jakhar said that despite Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s assurances, the AAP administration in the state has entirely disregarded Abohar for the last two years and that several development projects remained unfinished.

He said that although there were unfounded rumors circulating that the Jakhar family would not support Sodhi, this was untrue since they were renowned for keeping their word.
