ABVP members worship Lord Ram in Jadavpur University, SFI opposes consecration ceremony

On Monday, in conjunction with the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, members of the RSS student branch, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), worshiped Lord Ram on the campus of Jadavpur University.

Simultaneously, the majority student organization at the institution, Students Federation of India (SFI), organized a protest demonstration on campus and a seminar where speakers condemned “any attempt to change history and divide society by the fascist regime.”

About fifty people gathered in the union room to worship Lord Ram and watch the live broadcast of the consecration event of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, according to Saptarshi Sarkar, the head of the ABVP state committee, who spoke to PTI.

“Several university employees were there in addition to the students and members of the ABVP. The show will go on till the evening,” he said.

“The Arts Faculty Students Union (AFSU) rejects any communal and fascist intention of RSS-BJP,” JU SFI head Sourayadipto Roy said.

To promote the notion that India’s culture, legacy, and diverse nature should be preserved, we are holding cultural events, talks, and movie screenings.”

Programs were organized by the SFI on campus till the afternoon.

In a letter to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Education Minister Bratya Basu, and Governor CV Ananda Bose, the All Bengal University Teachers’ Association (ABUTA) expressed concern about attempts to “hold religious activities on the campus which violates the secular spirit and has no relation with education and public interest.”

According to a university representative, the institution has no involvement in any program organized by a particular organization as long as it doesn’t disrupt campus harmony or the academic environment.

“The examinations for the semester are going well. We are unable to comment on any program run by a student organization.”
