According to CM Prem Singh Tamang, the Sikkim flash flood’s destroyed dam was the result of poor construction

Prem Singh Tamang, the chief minister of Sikkim, blamed the Chungthang dam’s destruction on shoddy construction on Friday, as a catastrophic flash flood continued to pummel the state.

According to media accounts, when questioned about the terrible flooding scenario in the state, the chief minister reportedly said, “The dam washed away because its construction was not done in a proper way.”

Tamang continued by saying that the devastating fash flood completely cut off connection to the state’s northern region.

The Chief Minister added that of the 23 army men who were missing from the Burdang region, 15 missing jawans are still being sought for, while the remains of seven of them were found in various locations downstream.

Massive amounts of water accumulated in the Teesta River as a result of the flash flood caused by the coudburst, which then turned toward the Chungthang Dam and destroyed the electrical infrastructure.

The official death toll from the Sikkim flash floods now stands at 21.

The Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority (SSDMA) said that as of the most recent bulletin, 2,411 individuals had been evacuated and housed in relief camps, while the disaster has touched more than 22,000 people.

13 bridges have been destroyed by the flood so far across the state, with eight of them being swept away in the Mangan district alone. Three bridges were also damaged in Gangtok and two in Namchi.
