According to Nitin Gadkari, Tamil Nadu has the highest number of black spots on the highway network

Since highways and roads are being built in the nation every minute, which inadvertently places India on the developing list, it is impossible to overlook the fact that the number of traffic accidents is increasing annually.

There are many causes of traffic and highway mishaps. All things considered, black spots are one of the primary causes, and Tamil Nadu has led the list of states reporting the most traffic accidents, the majority of which are attributable to black spots.

What is the Highway Black Spot?
Within 500 meters of the national highway, there have been at least five recorded traffic incidents that have claimed 10 lives during the last three years. Both the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) have designated some regions as black spots.

What Nitin Gadkari Has to Say Regarding Black Spots
Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, expressed worry over the same. The minister has acknowledged that the state has the most amount of black spots in the nation’s national highway system, according to information provided by the HT.

According to him, the government has detected around 5,800 black spots across the nation’s highway system. Of these, 748 are located on Tamil Nadu’s national roads, followed by West Bengal with 701 and Telangana with 485.

The NHAI’s View on Dark Spots
Gadkari allegedly said that during the course of the previous five fiscal years, from 2018–19 to 2022–23, the NHAI has spent 715,702.80 crore on the upkeep and repair of black spots, according to HT.
