After 35 years, a son’s flood rescue mission in Patiala, Punjab, triggers an emotional reunion with his mother

Jagjit Singh, a rescue worker who helped those affected by the flooding in Punjab, had a life-altering surprise when he reconnected with his mother after 35 years apart.

On July 20, Singh reportedly saw his mother Harjeet Kaur in the Boharpur hamlet of Patiala. He had traveled to Patiala with his NGO, Bhai Ghanayia Ji, for flood relief operations in response to the destruction brought on by the recent monsoon fury, which has killed at least 43 people in the state. He was a devotional vocalist at the major gurdwara in Qadian.

Singh’s father passed away when he was six months old. When he was two years old, his grandparents brought him back to their house since his mother subsequently got remarried. He was informed as he grew up that his parents had perished in a collision.

He said that he had been informed that the residence of his maternal grandmother was also in Patiala and that one of his aunts had organized the reunion. Singh said that his aunt made a hazy reference to Boharpur village as a potential residence for his maternal grandparents.

Singh visited his maternal grandma Preetam Kaur in Boharpur after hearing his aunt’s words. “I began questioning her. She seemed dubious at first, but when she admitted that my mother Harjit had a kid from her previous union, I started crying. He was cited as stating, “I stated I was the unfortunate son, one who could not see his mother for nearly three decades.

At the home of his maternal grandparents, Singh finally got to see his mother after more than three decades, and he was overcome with emotion. As soon as they embraced, the mother and boy started crying. Later, the heartbreaking video was uploaded on Facebook.

Singh, 37, arrived with his wife, their kid, 8, and daughter, 14.

He discovered his mother’s existence five years ago, according to the magazine, but had little information since his grandpa and all other family members who knew about his parents had died.

The man who reared Singh, his paternal grandpa, died away in 2014, not long after Singh completed his matriculation.

He recalled seeing a photo of himself with a lady in his early years without realizing it was his mother. When he inquired about his parents, his grandpa always replied that they had perished in a vehicle accident. Two decades ago, his grandpa, a retired police officer, moved from Haryana to Qadian in Punjab.
