Ajit Pawar: Those who disparage opposition leaders on social media must face harsh punishment

Ajit Pawar, a senior NCP leader, called on all political parties to stop using derogatory language against one another on Friday and called for strict punishment for anyone who attempt to malign opposition politicians on social media.

Pawar told reporters in Pune that he made attempts to contact both Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on the social media death threat made against NCP President Sharad Pawar.

“We discovered who the account belongs to. The fact that the individual works for the BJP is indicated in the bio. We don’t know whether he really works for the BJP or if his party just directed him to say so. The battle should be waged on intellectual grounds, he argued.

Everyone is entitled to the right to free speech, but why abuse it, he asked. He questioned, “Who gave them the authority to publish anything slanderous against any political leader.

Ajit Pawar said that when he attempted to contact Shinde, he was informed that the CM was on tour. “I attempted to contact deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis but was unable. I’ll try to contact him once more,” he promised.

The threat-maker’s phone should be examined to see whether he was in communication with someone and if that person instructed him to send the threat message, according to Pawar, who is also the Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly.

To prevent a disruption of law and order, the police should respond decisively in such cases. He said, “Those who committed this act must be apprehended, and action must be taken.”

Pawar voiced worry about what he termed the current practise of discrediting opposition party leaders and destroying their reputations in public.

He remarked, “I condemn that,” pleading other NCP employees to avoid the same error.

When asked about BJP leader Nilesh Rane’s Aurangzeb remark for Sharad Pawar, he said that certain party members were using profanity.

“These parties’ senior leadership should intervene and tell them to stop speaking disparagingly about one another. Identify ideological gaps. I’m referring to all parties, including ours,” he said.

The NCP chairman said that political party spokespeople shouldn’t engage in mudslinging. If that goes on, he continued, the state would be ashamed.

When questioned about the rise in cases of disorder and violence brought on by individuals posting offensive status updates on social media, Pawar suggested that the state government pass strict laws to deal with the issue.

He stated, “In Delhi, a similar occurrence had previously occurred. It included the finding of a woman’s cut and cooked body parts from a residence in Thane district and the arrest of her live-in boyfriend. Fast-track courts should hear these cases, and the death sentence should be applied.
