The new initiative will run for a year, or until 10,000 applications are received by the Canadian government.

The Canadian government said in a press statement earlier this month that “thousands of individuals in high-tech industries are engaged with firms that have significant operations in both Canada and the US, and those working in the US often hold an H-1B specialized occupation visa. Holders of H-1B visas for specific occupations in the US, together with their immediate family members who are traveling with them, will be able to petition to move to Canada beginning on July 16, 2023.
