Arvind Kejriwal, the mayor of Delhi, announces a Rs 10,000 compensation for flood-affected families and free books for kids

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, said on Sunday that each household in the national capital will get Rs 10,000 in compensation.

In addition to offering monetary compensation, Kejriwal said in a tweet that the Delhi government will establish special camps for records lost in the floods and would also provide children’s uniforms and books.

The decision comes as Delhi experiences the worst floods in decades as a result of historic rainfall and the Yamuna’s water level. As rains could not be evacuated and the overflowing Yamuna river invaded the city, several areas of Delhi were drowned and some roadways transformed into canals.

Kejriwal said in a tweet that “many impoverished people living on the banks of the Yamuna have incurred significant losses. Some family have lost all they had.

Following that, Kejriwal enumerated the three types of compensation.

“One, we will provide each flood-affected household with Rs 10,000 in cash relief. Two, we will host special camps for those who have misplaced important papers like their Aadhaar cards. Three, schools will provide books to kids who lost their uniforms and textbooks, according to Kejriwal.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have engaged in verbal combat over the Delhi floods. While the BJP sought an investigation into whether the Kejriwal administration desilted the Yamuna river and drains and how much was spent on it, the AAP said that the Delhi floods were the consequence of a BJP plot.
