As the city chokes on smog, Delhi Minister Gopal Rai will review the air pollution plan

According to authorities reported by news agency PTI, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai will meet with representatives from many agencies on Thursday to make sure the steps included in the Center’s air pollution management plan are implemented effectively. According to a PTI spokesman, the meeting would start at 1 pm in the Delhi Secretariat. Rai had already scolded the agencies involved for their negligence in implementing the air pollution management plan and directed them to build a monitoring framework for supervising the teams responsible for enforcing anti-air pollution measures.

The discussion takes place amid unfavorable weather conditions that prevent pollutants from dispersing caused Delhi’s air quality to alternate between the “very poor” and “severe” classifications on Thursday.

At 9 a.m. on Thursday, the Central Pollution Control Board reported that the capital’s Air Quality Index was 393. On Wednesday, the 24-hour average AQI, which is calculated daily at 4 p.m., was 401. It was Tuesday, 397. On Monday, it was 358, on Sunday, 218, on Saturday, 220, on Friday, 279, and on Thursday, 437.

According to recent data from a collaborative research between the government of Delhi and IIT-Kanpur, on Wednesday, vehicle emissions were responsible for almost 38% of the air pollution in the nation’s capital. It is anticipated that by Thursday, this would increase to 40%. According to a representative of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there won’t likely be any respite over the following several days due to the buildup of pollutants caused by the calm winds and low temperatures.
