Assam Delimitation: EC Releases Final Report, 19 Assembly Seat Names Changed

The final report from the Election Commission on the delineation of Assam’s assembly and parliamentary seats was released on Friday, maintaining the same total numbers of 126 and 14, respectively. The polling commission altered the names of one parliamentary constituency and 19 assembly constituencies in its final decision.

Two Lok Sabha seats and 19 assembly seats have been set aside for Scheduled Tribes (STs), according to an EC statement. Scheduled Castes (SCs) have been given one Lok Sabha and nine assembly seats. It claimed that before the study was finalized, more than 1,200 comments were taken into account. The final ruling took into account 45% of the proposals and objections that the panel had received.

Based on the 2001 Census, all of the state’s assembly and parliamentary seats were reconfigured. “The Census figures of 2001, as published by the Census Commissioner, have thus alone been considered for this purpose,” the statement added.
