at order to attend Kisan Mahapanchayat, farmers board trains at Delhi

Local farmers boarded trains headed for the national capital on Wednesday from the railway station here, one day ahead of the planned Kisan Mahapanchayat at Ramlila Ground in Delhi, which was set on Thursday. According to the farmer leaders, the majority of them will be in Delhi by nightfall, enabling the panchayat to begin on schedule.

Some farmers, according to the union organizers, would drive their own automobiles to Delhi. According to the farmer leaders, traveling on tractors is not advised because of the possibility of being stopped by the police.

“Thousands of farmers are going to Delhi for the Mahapanchayat,” said Jatinder Singh Chinna, leader of the Kirti Kisan Union, who was present at the train station. He said that the meeting is anticipated to draw at least one lakh Punjabi farmers.

According to Chinna, the meeting in Delhi will prove that farmers nationwide need a legal guarantee for the MSP in addition to a minimum support price for all crops. Chinna went on to say that by arguing that guaranteed MSP would lead to inflation, the government and BJP leaders were attempting to deceive the people.

The MSP for the wheat harvest that the farmers will sell would be around Rs 2,200 per quintal. This implies that he will charge Rs 22 per kilogram of wheat. On the other hand, a daily wager or rickshaw puller would have to purchase wheat flour at least Rs 35 per kilogram that day. He said, “Traders are now purchasing agricultural products at a discount, and the price is subsequently almost quadrupled.

Leaders of farmer unions said that government engagement in the trade would guarantee that the general public receives food at a reasonable cost since private purchasers were profiting much more from crops without minimum support prices.
