At the White House, “Sare jahan se achchha Hindustan hamara” was performed

At a reception with President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on Monday, hundreds of Asian Americans gathered to celebrate the annual Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month. The White House Marine Band performed “Sare jahan se achchha Hindustan hamara” to the assembled crowd.

At the request of Indian-Americans who were invited by the president to the yearly celebration, the White House Marine Band performed the patriotic song twice, which was penned by Mohammad Iqbal during India’s independence fight.

“The White House’s AANHPI Heritage Month was wonderfully celebrated in the Rose Garden this year. The finest part was that “Sare jahan se achchha Hindustan Hamara” was being played by the musicians as I entered the White House. In an interview with PTI during the Rose Garden event, Indian-American community leader Ajay Jain Bhutoria said, “Our Hindustan is better than the entire world.”

The well-known Indian patriotic hymn has been performed in the White House twice in less than a year.

It was last performed on June 23, during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic state visit.

Prior to the State visit, the Marine Band claimed to have rehearsed the song.

“I had a wonderful feeling. The White House was filled with pride at that time.I joined them in song, and then I asked them to play it again. They acknowledged that it was their second time playing it. They performed it during Prime Minister Modi’s visit, and they are doing it now. The fact that it is being performed in the White House today is wonderful, Bhutoria, who is from California, said.

According to him, the fact that this song is being played during AANHPI Heritage Month shows how much President Biden and his staff value the connection between India and the US as well as Indian Americans.
