Autorickshaws in Kochi Metro Feeder System Will Soon Take Online Payments

To pay for fares, Kochi Metro feeder auto rickshaws will accept UPI applications in addition to credit or debit cards.

The new project will be introduced during a ceremony at Pathadipalam on May 13 by Loknath Behera, the managing director (MD) of Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL). The Times of India reports that the Kochi 1 Card may also be used to pay fares.

In order to accept payments, autorickshaws in the state have never before installed point-of-sale (POS) terminals, according to KMRL authorities. Customers will have access to digital receipts that provide information about their journey and costs. Additionally, according to the administration, this will support fare transparency.

According to authorities, OneDi Smart Mobility and the Ernakulam Jilla Auto Drivers Cooperative Society are helping with the initiative. A cooperation between Google and Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) was launched on May 10th, with the aim of improving digital ticketing options for metro users.

Google Wallet, according to TOI, enables users to quickly save and retrieve important digital documents like cinema tickets, airline passes, loyalty cards, and more. It also offers quick and safe access to daily necessities. Additionally, the integration of Google Wallet and KMRL services is being led by communication services provider Prudent Technologies.

In 2017, the 28-kilometer mass rapid transit system was operationalized. The integration of Google Wallet into the metro’s ticketing system is a big milestone, according to KMRL MD Behera, who spoke during the unveiling of the new digital ticketing option for passengers on Friday in Kochi.

“With a more efficient and convenient method to obtain tickets and navigate the metro, the partnership marks a significant advancement in improving the travel experience for metro users.” Hopefully, in the next few days, this will also apply to Water Metro ferries. According to KMRL MD Behera, who was cited by The Hindu, “commuters have already been using other options like WhatsApp ticketing to travel in the metro.”

Meanwhile, Google’s India Engineering Lead and General Manager for Android, Ram Papatla, emphasized the significance of the launch in providing new levels of convenience to Android users nationwide, saying that the introduction of Google Wallet earlier this week marked a significant turning point in the development of Android in India by offering users convenient and cutting-edge experiences that make life easier.
