Bengal BJP chairman wants Mamata Banerjee to announce January 22 as a holiday in honor of the Ram Mandir event

Sukanta Majumdar, the president of the West Bengal BJP, wrote to President Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday, pleading with her to proclaim January 22 as a holiday so that people might take part in the festivities commemorating the dedication of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.

On January 22, all national regional rural banks (RRBs), insurance firms, financial institutions, and central government buildings will be closed for a half-day. To commemorate the consecration event, a number of states, including Assam and Odisha, who are neighbors, have also announced half-day holidays.

“With a copy of the letter I wrote to our Hon’ble Chief Minister @MamataOfficial (Mamata Banerjee), I have requested that 22 January 2024 be declared a school holiday so that the youth of West Bengal can take part in the Ram Mandir consecration celebrations,” Majumdar wrote on X.

He said in his letter that the chief minister has previously issued vacations for a number of noteworthy events.

Therefore, we believe that the state’s citizens ought to be permitted to take part in the celebrations marking the opening of the Ram Temple. Thus, we kindly ask that you formally proclaim this day a holiday,” he stated.

In response to Majumdar’s letter, the TMC leadership questioned whether the Hindu almanac had a particular date that was designated as the auspicious opening date of the Ram Temple.

Is there a certain day that is designated as the auspicious date for the opening of the Ram Temple in the almanac or another Hindu religious calendar? Has Sukanta Majumdar become a clergyman? A number of BJP politicians are expected to attend the Ram Temple opening, which is a political event that takes place before Lok Sabha politics. We don’t combine religion and politics as the BJP does, according to TMC spokesman Kunal Ghosh.

On January 22, Banerjee, the leader of the governing Trinamool Congress (TMC), will lead a ‘rally for unity’ from south Kolkata’s Hazra Crossing to Park Circus, where a public gathering will also take place.

After doing ‘puja’ at the ancient Kalighat temple, she will begin the multifaith march and stop at several houses of worship along the way.
