Bihar Electricity Price Hike: One more setback after petrol-diesel hit, electricity may be costlier from April 1
Bihar is another bad news for people amidst the ever increasing prices of petrol-diesel and LPG. Now the power companies have also sent a proposal to the Bihar State Electricity Regulatory Commission to increase the electricity price from April 1. If the Commission accepts this proposal, then from April 1, another hit is going to hit the pocket of common people (Rate of Electricity in Bihar). This proposal has come from South and North Bihar power distribution companies.
According to the sources of Bihar Electricity Department, it has been proposed to increase the rate by about 10 percent in the power companies. Hearing on this has been completed in the Electricity Regulatory Commission on Friday, but the Commission has reserved the decision for the time being. According to the information received, BIA and consumers have opposed this proposal of the power companies. The BIA has told the Commission that electricity prices should be reduced, while companies are adamant on the proposal to increase the price.
The power company is saying - there is a loss
Let us know that the power company is citing its loss to increase the rate. In this hearing, South Bihar Power Distribution has shown a loss of 42.86 percent and North Bihar Company 27.71 percent. Significantly, the commission had given a target of 15 percent of this loss in the year 2017-18, so that electricity can be made up to 15% cheaper.
In contrast, the power company is now stating its losses too much. Presently, the Commission Chairman Shishir Sinha, members RK Chaudhary and SC Chaurasia have reserved the decision on increasing the price of electricity. If the Commission agrees to the power companies, then it can prove to be a big hit on the pockets of the people of Bihar.
