BRS Reacts Angrily To Chidambaram’s Apology For Telangana Agitation Deaths

The governing BRS reacted sharply to senior Congressman P Chidambaram’s apology for the deaths that occurred during the Telangana statehood movement.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, the former Union Minister said that separating or founding a state was a serious matter that was carried out in response to popular movement.

Minister K T Rama Rao, the leader of the BRS, responded to Chidambaram’s comments by saying it was already too late.

Chidambaram referred to suicide as a “unfortunate incident” and expressed regret if anybody died as a result of the agitation during the people’s movement. However, you cannot hold the Central government at the time accountable for it.”

He was answering Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s charge that lives had been lost as a consequence of the previous UPA government’s tardiness in forming Telangana.

The senior congressman went on to say that Telangana was created in reaction to the populist movement.

BRS working president Rama Rao said on “X” that it was “too late and too little Chidambaram Ji.. During the years 1952 to 2014, hundreds of Telangana youth were killed by your party alone. Congress’s atrocities against the people of Telangana will never fade from memory, no matter how hard you try today.”

On the other side, Chidambaram said that under the BRS administration headed by K Chandrasekhar Rao, over 4,000 suicides were recorded in Telangana, and he wanted to discover who was to blame.

“The creation of a state follows a movement, such as the creation of the first Andhra Pradesh. People relocate in reaction to divisions within a state. We apologize if any lives have been lost. But what about Telangana’s approximately 4,000 suicides under the KCR administration? Who bears the guilt for their suicides? He queried.

Rao has accused Congress during his electoral rallies of impeding Telangana’s creation.

After he started an indefinite fast, the previous UPA administration approved Telangana’s establishment, although it later broke its promise.

Later, he had stated that the UPA administration had only kept its commitment in the face of widespread demonstrations.

Rao further asserted that the Grand Old Party postponed approving a new state and that the Congress was to responsible for the killings that occurred during the statehood movement.

Rao became a well-known leader of that movement, according to Chidambaram, which is why he is now the Chief Minister.

“Hopefully, KCR is not implying that the people are unrelated to it, as I am from Telangana. He remarked, “I hope he is not saying that, and if he is, people will respond to him in the polls.

The former Union Minister stated that the Congress finally consented to split off Telangana after much effort and pressure, and that news came on December 9, 2009, the day Chandrasekhar Rao broke his fast.

“KCR praised us very much. However, there was another uproar. Six recommendations were made by the Justice Srikrishna Commission after it was constituted. In the end, he said, “the Congress party and the Central government decided to split united Andhra Pradesh into Telangana and AP.”

In response to a question about KCR’s claim that the Congress had combined Telangana with Andhra Pradesh previously (in 1956), against the will of the local people, Chidambaram said, “I believe that Chandrasekhar Rao is not a very good historian.”

How did Andhra Pradesh come to be? The Madras presidency included a sizable portion of Andhra Pradesh. Hyderabad state was another. A single Andhra Pradesh was founded, uniting all Telugu-speaking people and areas in this portion of India, as a result of a significant effort to create a Telugu-speaking state, he added.

Telangana Finance Minister T Harish Rao responded by writing on “X” that Congressman Chidambaram’s remark was “an expression of condolence from a murderer.” During the protest, young people gave their lives in sacrifice as a result of Chidambaram retracting his claim that Telangana was formed.”
