Case of father-son death due to police harassment, Tamil Nadu government handed over case to CBI

Chennai. In the case of the father-son death due to alleged torture by the police a few days back in Tuticorin district of Tamil Nadu , a new fact has emerged that he died within hours of hospitalization for treatment. In an order issued by the government on Monday, the case has been handed over to the CBI which records details of the events related to the death of Jayaraj and his daughter Fenix. The order stated that the two men were arrested on June 19 for violation of prohibitory orders and taken to a doctor of a government hospital in Satanakulam in Tuticorin district for compulsory medical examination. 

The next day a magistrate sent him to judicial custody and he was kept in Kovilpatti sub-jail. Phenix was admitted to the government hospital at Kovilpatti by the jail authorities at around 7.45 pm on 22 June and died during treatment at 9 pm. The order said that his father Jayaraj was also admitted to the same hospital at around 10:30 pm on the same day and died at 5.40 am on the morning of 23 June. P Jayaraj and his son Fenix ​​were arrested for 'violating' lockdown rules by opening their mobile phone shop after the deadline. His relatives alleged that policemen beat him up badly at the Satankulam police station.
