Chandigarh: A BSP candidate files papers, and a lone lady is in danger

The only female contender for the Chandigarh parliamentary seat, Ritu Singh, submitted her nomination papers today. Nominations must be submitted by tomorrow, at the latest. Seven candidates have submitted their papers so far, Sanjay Tandon of the BJP among them.

Ritu, 35, submitted her BSP nominations. Ritu, an Amritsar native, completed her undergraduate studies in 2009, her postgraduate studies in psychology at Jammu University in 2011, and her doctorate at Delhi University in 2019.

Her assets include Rs 7.11 lakh, which includes Rs 25,000 in cash, Rs 3.55 lakh spread over many bank accounts, Rs 45,000 for a scooter, and Rs 2.85 lakh for 40 grams of gold.

In Delhi, she was the target of up to seven FIRs. Former Delhi University ad hoc lecturer DR College was charged with allegedly infringing on an area beyond the university grounds with her “pakoda” business.

Sector 22 Chandigarh resident Piar Chand, an independent, submitted his nomination papers.

The combined assets of Chand and his spouse amount to Rs 16.30 lakh, including a vehicle, 22 grams of gold, Rs 1.3 lakh in cash, and bank deposits. In addition, he owns five bighas of agricultural property in Himachal Pradesh valued at Rs 30 lakh, as well as a residential home. Chand, who works as an attorney, completed his LLB from Himachal Pradesh University in 2002.
