CM Naveen Patnaik will give the BJD campaign in Rourkela its last push

In the midst of a tense battle between the BJD and BJP for the May 20 simultaneous elections in the Sundargarh district, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is scheduled to make an appearance here on Wednesday in an attempt to finalize the party’s campaign.

In preparation for the concurrent general elections in 2024 for the Sundargarh Lok Sabha (LS) seat and the seven Assembly constituencies (ACs) that fall under it, the BJP has also scheduled a number of its national campaigners to appear at electoral rallies.

The chief minister is expected to arrive at the Rourkela airport on Wednesday at 11.25 am and give a speech at a public gathering at the nearby airport ground, according to BJD’s Rourkela town president Gagan Panda. He will soon go for the Deogarh district at 12:30. Earlier, on May 10 and 11, VK Pandian, the star campaigner for BJD and chairman of the 5T, actively campaigned in all seven ACs via public meetings and roadshows.

Interestingly, Amit Shah, the star campaigner for the Bharatiya Janata Party and Union Home Minister, was supposed to speak at a BJP electoral rally at the same location the same day at about 3.30 pm. It was, however, postponed, and Shah’s updated schedule should be announced shortly.

According to trustworthy BJP sources, Shah will probably reach Rourkela on May 17 or 18. They said that on May 17, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma would also speak at a sizable public assembly in Bonai AC, and on May 18, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav will speak at two electoral rallies in Bonai and Rajgangpur ACs.

Additionally, on May 16 and 17, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai is expected to speak at three electoral gatherings in the seats of Birmitrapur Assembly, Rajgangpur, and Sundargarh.
