Congress declines invitation to ‘RSS/BJP’ event and will not attend the opening of Ayodhya Ram Mandir

The much-awaited “Pran Pratishtha” (consecration) of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya on January 22 has been postponed by Congress.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury have “respectfully” denied the invitation, referring to the consecration as a “RSS/BJP” function.

According to a statement made by Congress General Secretary (Communications), Jairam Ramesh, millions of people in the nation worship Lord Ram, and religion is a matter of personal choice.

However, the Ayodhya temple has long been a political initiative for the RSS and BJP. It is clear that the BJP and RSS officials pushed for the opening of the unfinished temple in order to win political points. According to the statement, “Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, Smt. Sonia Gandhi, and Shri Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury have respectfully declined the invitation to what is clearly an RSS/BJP event, while abiding by the 2019 Supreme Court judgment and honoring the sentiments of millions who revere Lord Ram.”
