The country was partitioned on this day in 1947. The new country Pakistan was born only after the partition of the country. We got independence on 15th August 1947, but before that, we also had to face the pain of partition. Due to this, a decision has been taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to celebrate 14 August as a 'horrific memory of Partition'. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also made a tweet regarding this. Modi wrote that today, on Partition Commemoration Day, I pay homage to all those who lost their lives during Partition and appreciate the patience and tolerance of the victims of that tragic period of our history.
At the same time, Congress is constantly attacking Modi on this day. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said that the prime minister's real intention behind celebrating partition on August 14 as Partition Vibhishika Memorial Day is to use the most painful historical events for his political gains. Lakhs of people were displaced and lost their lives. Their sacrifices should not be forgotten or humiliated. He said that the tragedy of Partition should not be misused to incite hatred and prejudice. The truth is that Savarkar gave the principle of two nations and Jinnah took it forward. Patel wrote, "I feel that if the partition is not accepted, India will be divided into many pieces".
The Congress leader asked whether the prime minister would also remember Jan Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee, who supported the partition of Bengal against the wishes of Sarat Chandra Bose, and joined independent India's first cabinet when the painful consequences of partition were visible. He said that the efforts of modern-day Savarkar and Jinnah to divide the country continue even today. The Indian National Congress will continue to strive to unite the nation, carrying on the legacy of Gandhi, Nehru, Patel, and other leaders. The politics of hate will be defeated.
At the same time, BJP leader Amit Malviya has retaliated against this. Amit Malviya, replying to Jairam Ramesh, said that the two-nation theory was first propounded by Sir Syed Ahmed Khan, the founder of the Aligarh Muslim University, who gave the idea in 1876, long before Savarkar's birth (1883). Savarkar and the Hindu Mahasabha were opposed to the idea of partition till the very end. He claimed that the resolution of the CWC in Delhi in early April 1942 accepted the partition of India. Rajagopalachari had asked the Madras legislature to pass a resolution in favor of Pakistan even before Jinnah's formal demand was made. Congress and its top leadership are the real father of Pakistan. So Congress cannot hide its ill-will. The Horrors of Partition Remembrance Day is a day to stand in solidarity.
