Congress requests a draught of the uniform civil code during a crucial meeting today

The Congress Parliamentary Strategy Group had a meeting today to discuss several concerns the party will bring up during the Monsoon session of the Parliament, which begins on July 3. This discussion by the Law Commission on the Uniform Civil Code is significant, and it will be discussed there on July 3. Regarding the UCC, the Congress reaffirmed its position that a draught of such a code be provided.

“We uphold the accuracy of our June 15 statement. Since then, nothing new has occurred, according to Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh. The gathering took place at Sonia Gandhi’s home in New Delhi, the former president of the Congress.

About the Uniform Civil Code
According to a statement released by the Congress on June 15, it is odd that the Law Commission is looking for a new reference when it accepts that the 21st Law Commission produced a consultation paper on the topic in August 2018.

Ramesh had said that the Law Commission has not provided any explanations as to why the topic is being addressed other than general statements like “the relevance and importance of the subject and also, various court orders.”

The underlying reason, according to the party, is that the 21st Law Commission found that having a Uniform Civil Code at this time is not required nor desirable after conducting a thorough and in-depth assessment of the topic.

This remark was reaffirmed by the Congress today.

issues to be discussed during the parliamentary monsoon session
The organisation called for the resignation of Manipur’s chief minister, N Biren Singh, due to the state of the state. Since fighting began in Manipur on May 3, the BJP has questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inaction on the subject.

“The situation in Manipur was the first topic we spoke about today. Since it is obvious that the BJP administration there has no control over the situation, we demand the resignation of the chief minister (N Biren Singh). Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, “We also seek a discussion on the Manipur issue in the Parliament.

In addition, Congress called on Ashwini Vaishnaw, the minister of railways, to resign in light of the tragedy of the Balasore train that lost over 250 lives. Ramesh said, “This matter will also be brought up in the monsoon session.”

The next gathering of opposition parties will take place in Bengaluru on July 13–14, according to NCP Chief Sharad Pawar’s earlier announcement. Jairam Ramesh said that a later confirmation will be made on the date. He said that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had told other party members of what had transpired during the Patna opposition meeting.
