Congress will make sure that no land is purchased without the farmers’ permission

The Delhi unit of the Congress stated on Monday that if elected to power, it will make sure that land acquisition is started with the approval of the farmers, targeting votes from the city’s rural and agricultural areas.

President of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC), Devender Yadav, stated in an address to a mahapanchayat in Bawana village that the Congress Nyay Patra (manifesto) for the Lok Sabha elections places a particular stress on the welfare and protection of farmers and their output.

“The Land Acquisition Act, which was passed by the Congress Government and which the Modi Government was attempting to circumvent, stipulates that Congress will ensure that the land acquisition was done with the consent of the farmers,” Yadav said.

Congress will not support changes to the 2013 Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement Act, he continued, saying that Rahul Gandhi, the party’s leader, has always spoken out in favor of farmers’ interests, which is evident in the party platform.

Speaking about the other pledges, he stated, “When the Congress and India Alliance partners come to power at the Centre, these will be implemented, including justice for the farmers and improvement of the lives of the people in the rural areas of Delhi. These are included in the five Nyay and 25 guarantees in the Congress manifesto.” Sarpanches from rural regions and Ishwar Singh, a former party municipal councillor, headed the mahapanchayat.
