Daljit Singh Chaudhary, an IPS officer, was named the next NSG director general

Daljit Singh Chaudhary, an IPS officer from the 1990 batch, was named director general (DG) of the National Security Guard (NSG) by the Center on Wednesday.

Heading the NSG has been assigned to Chaudhary, who is presently the DG of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

It is an anti-terrorism and anti-hijacking government counterdeployment force.

The force is only employed in extraordinary circumstances that the government deems necessary. It is trained to cope with certain scenarios. NSG was heavily used in the 26/11 Mumbai terror strikes.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs stated that “Upon the superannuation of M A Ganapathy, IPS (UK:86), Director General, NSG on February 29, the Competent Authority has approved the assignment of the additional charge of the post to Daljit Singh Chaudhary, IPS (UP:90), Director General, SSB.” This assignment will last for three months, or until a regular incumbent is appointed and joins the organization, or until further orders, whichever comes first.
