Delhi: A Sikh body forms an 11-person team to consult with the government on the uniform civil code

An 11-member committee was established by a national Sikh conclave held here on Friday to consult with the government on the Uniform Civil Code and guarantee that the community’s rights and customs are not altered, according to an office-bearer.

The draft of the UCC has not yet been issued by the Central government, according to Harmit Singh Kalka, president of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), therefore “there could not be a decision whether it is to be supported or opposed.”

In order to guarantee that the rights of Sikhs and their religious traditions are not compromised, an 11-member committee has been established, according to Kalka, who spoke at a news conference after the Sikh conclave held at the Rakabganj gurdwara.

The conference was attended by members of the Sikh community from 13 states, including former judges and government officials, he claimed.
