Delhi Traffic Police Warned For Targeting Expensive Vehicles And Demanding Money From Drivers

The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a warning to its personnel for allegedly “extorting” the drivers of expensive and opulent vehicles and levying “bogus fines” under the guise of traffic infractions.

The police promised to take harsh measures against any officers who engaged in such behavior in an internal message.

According to The Indian Express, Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) SS Yadav said that they have discovered that traffic police officers are pressuring the motorists and charging between Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000 in penalties.

According to Yadav, this is “illegal” and if such actions continue, the local traffic inspector will be held accountable, and the DCP and ACP will also be required to defend them.

Senior officials informed IE that the Delhi Police checked the city as a result and found that certain officers were accepting “bogus fines” from owners of expensive automobiles and imported vehicles.

The owners and drivers of the car have complained to police about the same.

In addition to stealing money, these policemen were also seen causing traffic jams and commotion on the highways, according to the police.
