Detainees in Dibrugarh prison are to be moved, according to a pantheistic assembly on Amritsar Heritage Street

In support of the demand of the relatives of the inmates at the Dibrugarh jail, a panthic assembly was arranged along Heritage Street next to the Golden Temple. Both the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Akal Takht sent delegates to the event.

The relatives of Amritpal Singh, the leader of Waris Punjab De, and nine other individuals accused of violating the National Security Act, requested that they be sent to a prison in Punjab due to concerns for their safety.

As this was going on, there was reportedly fighting between some of Amritpal’s fans and security agency representatives, which resulted in others who were there being physically assaulted. Still, everything was brought under control.

The relatives of the prisoners from Dibrugarh said that several supporters from their outlying areas were arrested beforehand by the police to prevent them from going to the Amritsar programme.

In the presence of SGPC member Bhagwant Singh Sialka and Akal Takht assistant head granthi Giani Malkit Singh, the participants also approved a number of resolutions.

The assembly requested that Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh step in to resolve the situation because the relatives of the detained individuals had been on a hunger strike due to the government’s refusal to comply with their demands. Additionally, the assembly sent five Gursikhs to the Dibrugarh jail in an attempt to persuade Amritpal and his associates to end the hunger strike in light of the detainees’ failing health.

Amritpal and his assistants have been on a hunger strike in the Dibrugarh prison since February 16. They claim that the responsible authorities violated their privacy by secretly installing security cameras in their restrooms and barracks.

The assembly called for the NSA’s imposition of prisoners to be lifted. They criticized the federal government and state governments for their lack of concern for the Bandi Singhs, Sikh political prisoners, and for not carrying out the 2019 notification that called for Balwant Singh Rajoana’s death sentence to be commuted to life in prison and the release of other prisoners who had been detained for the duration of their sentences but had not yet been released from custody.

A “Bandi Chhor Ardas March” from Takht Damdama Sahib, Anandpur Sahib, and Fatehgarh Sahib to the Akal Takht in April was requested by the assembly.
