Driver arrested for residential burglary

The police have detained Sukhpreet Singh, a native of Kallewal village, the driver of the property owner who was burglarized two days ago in the Shashtri Nagar neighborhood on Lawrence Road. From his possession, the police seized gold jewelry valued at Rs 6.43 lakh and cash worth Rs 70,000.

According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Prabhjot Singh Virk, Munish Suneja reported to the police two days before that a stranger had fled his home with money and jewelry. A police squad led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (North), Varinder Singh Khosa, looked into the event after receiving a report. Following an initial investigation, Sukhpreet Singh, the complainant’s driver, was taken into custody by the police.

Khosa added that around a week before, Suneja had recruited Sukhpreet as a driver. Khosa said that on Monday, after gaining the family’s confidence, he decamped with cash and jewelry. He said that the driver from Madan Mohan Malviya Road was detained by the police, who also took cash and jewelry from him.
