Due to recent snowfall in Himachal Pradesh, 265 highways are closed

On Wednesday, 265 roads in Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul and Spiti, Chamba, Kinnaur, Shimla, and Kullu districts were closed by new snowfall, while other areas of the state were battered by torrential rains.

The state's low temperatures increased by three to five notches. The lowest recorded temperature at night was - 4.7 degrees Celsius at Keylong.

A rainy period in the area is expected to last until January 30 according to the local meteorological service since another western disturbance will start to influence the area on Friday night. Among the blocked routes, 139 were in the districts of Lahaul and Spiti, 92 in Chamba, 13 in each of Shimla and Kullu, three in Mandi, and two in Kangra. These include National Highways 3 close to Rohtang Pass, 305 close to Jalori Pass, and 505 from Gramphu to Lossar. Salooni got 46 cm, Kukumseri 32 cm, Bharmaur 30 cm, Keylong 23 cm, Hansa 20 cm, Kothi 10 cm, Khadrala and Sangla 8 cm each, Kalpa and Shillaroo 5 cm, Chopal, Narkanda, and Pooh 3 cm each, and Kufri 1 centimeter of snow after Gondla, which received 50.5 cm.

Nagrota Suriyan, which received 90 mm of rain, was the wettest spot in the state. Chamba, which received 73 mm, Guler, 69 mm, Dharamshala, 68 mm, Gulyani, 60 mm, Una, 50 mm, Palampur, 40 mm, and Hamirpur, which received 28 mm, followed.

Farmers in Mandi area have been warned to take measures against waterlogging as another rainy weather is expected to last until the end of this month.
