Eastern Ladakh dispute: India and China conducted two days of military consultations

Following the conclusion of two days of military negotiations, India and China agreed to swiftly settle the outstanding concerns along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, according to a joint statement released on Tuesday.

“The two sides had a positive, constructive and in-depth discussion on the resolution of the remaining issues along the LAC in the Western Sector,” the statement said.

The statement went on to say that they “exchanged views in an open and forward-looking manner, in accordance with the direction provided by the leadership.”

On the Indian side of the border, at the Chushul-Moldo border meeting point, the 19th round of the India-China Corps Commander-level conference took place, according to the statement.

The lengthy border dispute was the subject of two days’ worth of high-level military negotiations for the first time.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, “they agreed to resolve the outstanding issues swiftly and maintain the momentum of dialogue and negotiations through military and diplomatic channels.”

“In the interim, the two sides agreed to maintain the peace and tranquillity on the ground in the border areas,” it said.

Even though the two sides completed their pullout from a number of regions after protracted diplomatic and military discussions, the Indian and Chinese soldiers have been engaged in a three-year-long conflict in specific flashpoints in eastern Ladakh.
