FIR filed against former Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa for molesting a juvenile

NEW DELHI: For allegedly sexually abusing a young child, former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has been charged with a crime. At Bengaluru’s Sadashivanagar police station on Thursday night, a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, 2012 (POCSO) and 354 (A) IPC was filed against him.

The said encounter occurred on February 2, 2024, when the 17-year-old went to Yediyurappa’s assistance in a cheating case with her mother in tow. According to reports, the mother reported sexual harassment to the police on Thursday night, and the POCSO case was opened after midnight.
Currently, penetrative sexual assault carries a minimum 10-year jail sentence, with the possibility of a life sentence. If the youngster is less than sixteen (16), the penalty may include a life sentence in prison in addition to a minimum of twenty years.
