Fisherman from Tamil Nadu returns CM’s check, claiming inadequate compensation

Chief Minister MK Stalin gave Rs 2 lakh in compensation to a Poompuhar fisherman whose vessel sank near the fishing harbor in 2020 due to heavy rain on Monday while giving social aid worth Rs 143.46 crore at Mannampanthal.

Nevertheless, R Ramesh allegedly informed the CM that the relief amount was inadequate when he was taken to the stage to accept the check. After receiving the check, the fisher—who had anticipated receiving Rs 5 lakh in compensation—turned it over to the ministers in person.

The district government would think about giving the fishermen further assistance, according to collector AP Mahabharathi. Following the guarantee, Ramesh subsequently took the check from the authorities.
