Five are caught by the Delhi Police for acting as officers and tricking people

Five individuals were arrested by the Delhi Cyber Police on Friday, breaking up a group of scammers who used to pose as police personnel in order to extort money from victims. They used to trick the victims into thinking they were looking after their relatives.

The Bhopal residents Vishwajeet Giri (age 25), Sudhir Pal (age 39), Ravi Kushwah (age 27), Kunji Lal Ahirvar (age 45), and Maya Singh (age 28) were named as the accused.

Deepak Kumar filed a cheating allegation on a cybercrime platform, according to DCP (Rohini) GS Sidhu.

The complainant claimed to have gotten a call from someone identifying themselves as a police officer, according to the DCP. The caller went on to inform the complainant that he was in charge of his kid and his three pals. The caller refused to release his kid till he received Rs 70,000.

According to the authorities, the complainant paid the money right away to the account number that the caller had given him so he could speak with his kid.

“The accused reportedly forced someone who sounded like his son to speak with the complainant after receiving the money. The complainant learned later that his kid was not being held by the police. He filed a report on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) after realizing he had been duped, according to the police.

The accused was the subject of an IPC Section 420 case that was filed.

According to the authorities, after analyzing the money trail, it was discovered that the defendants were based in Bhopal.

When a police squad got to Bhopal, they took one of the suspects, Vishwajeet, into custody.

When questioned, Vishwajeet admitted that he had set several Bhopal bank accounts to accept the stolen funds. He admitted to the police that he used to entice those with low incomes by offering them money in return for their bank account opening paperwork. He further said that, at the behest of his Bihari-based collaborators, he had moved around Rs 2-3 lakh in embezzled funds to several bank accounts.

During further searches, the police detained four more suspects whose SIM cards and accounts were used to commit the crime.

From Vishwajeet, the police have retrieved 40 cell phones, 41 SIM cards, 10 debit cards, and 18 passbooks belonging to various bank accounts.
