For illegal mining in a year, Paonta Sahib faces a punishment of Rs 51 lakh

The Paonta Sahib forest division launched a massive assault on unlawful mining and from March 2023 to March 2024, it levied stunning fines totaling over Rs 51.28 lakh.

This is the biggest yearly overall challenge amount that the division has ever documented. There were 278 challan cases in all as a consequence of the four categories of enforcement activities.

The Paonta range saw the most penalties out of all of them, followed by the Bhagani and Majra ranges.

The information showed that there was a noticeable increase in fines in certain months, with January being the highest month with 24 incidents of fines totaling Rs 6.75 lakh.

In a similar vein, 23 incidents totaling a fine of Rs 4.005 lakh were reported in March 2024.

The fines were assessed in accordance with many statutes, including the Illegal Mining Act and the Indian Forest Act of 1926.

The information shows the Paonta Sahib Forest Division’s efforts to protect the environment and enforce the law.
